Tonight, it's happening live !

It's a tough job, making broadcasts filled with canned fluff and
hours-old taped packages seem up-to-date. So, starting way
back in the nineties, I chronicled the practice at NBC NIghtly
News of inserting the word "tonight" into the copy more than
a dozen times per broadcast. My theory: it made the newscast
seem more newsy.

Now comes Marvin Block, who deconstructs a recent Anderson
Cooper script to find similar topical weaseling afoot.
At this moment, this is what's going on, tonight.

findory turns two

Chuck Norris doesn't go hunting (for that implies the possibility
of failure), he goes killing.

Likewise omor offers find rather than search. Why search when
you can find ? And the optimistically named Findory turns two,
as recalled by Greg Linden. As findable as those polar bear guys.

Liberal one party Canada 0 vs Blogosphere 1

For the moment, to put it nicely, the same thing has happened to the
Liberals in Canada, as has happened to other long-serving single-party
regimes elsewhere in the world. Technology has caught up with their
ability to manage information; and a sheltered population is losing
its fear. The more the ruling party tries to scare them, with
heavy-handed old-media campaigns, the worse things get --
for the ruling party.

Bonus:

Mother Nature at her most lyrical --
it is as if the woodsy sprite is in thrall to the music
of the celestial spheres. Dance, little ballerina, dance!

Will Stephen Harper send soldiers to kill this tree if he is elected? He won't say.
Soldiers. In Canada. With bullets.
We're not making this up.
Choose your Canada.
Vote Liberal.

Sanctimony

In the end, appearance may be all that matters. Take the Prius.
The hybrid uses less fuel than a gasoline-powered car. But the
Prius comes at a higher price that is rarely offset by the savings
in fuel. The Prius is a feel-good car that runs on sanctimony as
much as on its battery power. Much of its value is that everyone
can see you driving that little Earth saver.
